Child Protection Unit

Child Protection Unit was established in 2011 in
response to the fact that BHC closely works with children and protects children
across Mathare valley. As part of the unit's activities, a child protection
policy aimed at improving the general welfare of children was
institutionalized. The unit is generally mandated to lead the screening and
referral of cases of abuse as they present themselves in BHC's clinics or the
community. It also leads interventions aimed at preventing abuse. A partnership
with the Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK) has enabled
weekly reviews for children with disabilities, with professional advice on
handling such children being given to the parents and CHVs.
