HUMANITARIAN AID OFFICER
Baraka Healthnet wishes to expand its interventions in the humanitarian sector in East Africa, with an initial focus on Kenya, Somalia, and Uganda with a possibility of further expansion. Therefore, we are looking for a full-time humanitarian aid officer starting from 1st April 2024. The position is for an initial period of two years with the possibility of extension.
Responsibilities
- Setting up the new component of humanitarian aid projects under the organisation in close cooperation with Baraka Healthnet and German Doctors Bonn as main funder
- Partner mapping of existing humanitarian aid organisations working in East Africa (especially Kenya, Uganda, and Somalia)
- Creating and managing an active professional network with other humanitarian aid organisations in East Africa and positioning Baraka Healthnet within the network.
- Identifying humanitarian aid needs in East African countries and search for suitable partner organizations to implement humanitarian aid
- Identifying local funding resources for humanitarian aid projects and taking charge of application processes
- Conceptualization of new humanitarian aid projects
- Coordination and monitoring of ongoing humanitarian aid projects
- Reporting to funders on project developments
- Ensuring humanitarian principles and standards (SPHERE standards, Core Humanitarian Standard) are taken into account in Baraka Healthnet’s humanitarian aid projects
Requirements
- High mental and physical resilience in line with the requirements of various project locations
- Willingness to travel to disaster and crisis regions in East Africa
- Willingness to work on some weekends during project trips
- Relevant professional experience in humanitarian aid (ideally in project planning, implementation, and monitoring)
- Experiences in working with international organisations and international funding partners
- Knowledge of project countries (Kenya, Uganda, Somalia) is an asset
- Experience in M&E as an asset
- University degree or a Master’s degree in Political Science or Social Science, Public Administration, or Economics
- A minimum work experience of 3 years
- Strong communication skills
- Good facilitation/training skills
- Strong Team Player
- Proactive and solution-oriented
